This month, I am working on increasing customer success and engagement for a company called BondVet. For a full overview of the project click here.

This week, I did an audit of BondVet’s website to find any errors that need to be fixed or things that could be improved to make the visitor experience better. I also found a tool that would allow me to see how many engagements BondVet’s social media posts were getting. I was able to view what works and what doesn’t and come up with an action plan to improve engagement.

This week was different because I wasn’t completely sure what it would entail. I wasn’t sure what website issues SEMrush would find or what ways BondVet’s content needed to be improved until I actually used the tools.

What I planned to do:

  1. Sign up for SEMrush and analyze given data
  2. Improve/fix whatever issues are found
  3. Create a video and blog post about SEMrush
  4. Use Buzzsumo to see how content is performing
  5. Create a video showing how to navigate Buzzsumo
  6. Come up with a plan to improve content engagement based on information found
  7. Create a blog post about what I created and why
  8. Continue reading “How to Win Friends and Influence People”
  9. Write a blog post about week 3 progress

What I actually accomplished:

SEMrush

I signed up for a seven day free trial of SEMrush in order to do an audit of BondVet’s website. SEMrush is a marketing software that helps you run SEO, pay-per-click, social media, and content marketing campaigns. It can pull information on posts, ads, emails, and sites. I used it to see how well BondVet’s website was running.

I was able to see the overall site health, what wasn’t set up currently on the site, (like an on-page SEO checker) errors, warnings, notices, and top issues. You can click here for a tour of SEMrush.

I paid the most attention to the errors and top issues the website was having and came up with ways that I would resolve them. You can read more about that here.

BuzzSumo

I signed up for a 30 day free trial of BuzzSumo to view the insights of BondVet’s social media content. BuzzSumo tracks engagement on Facebook, Reddit, Pinterest, and Twitter. It also gives each article an evergreen score, which is based on how long a post stays relevant.

I also used BuzzSumo to help come up with new topics for new articles. BuzzSumo allows you to enter a keyword and then it will show the articles with the most engagement surrounding that word. It also shows the most search topics involving that word. You can click here to watch how I used BuzzSumo and how to navigate it.

Based on the information BuzzSumo gave me, which you can read about here, I have decided that in the coming week I will be creating Facebook ads, emails, and Twitter content to improve customer engagement. I will also be creating a schedule of when these posts will be sent out.

“How to Win Friends and Influence People”

I have continued to read 13 pages a day in “How to Win Friends and Influence People.” This week I read about how to keep a disagreement from becoming an argument. The author talks about how you should be thankful that someone has brought a new perspective to your attention as opposed to getting defensive. I learned that it’s important to hear people out and focus on the areas where you agree.

“If you argue and rankle and contradict, you may achieve victory sometimes; but it will be an empty victory because you will never get your opponent’s goodwill.”

Challenges I faced this week

The only thing that was difficult this week was not knowing what exactly I would be doing this week. I knew I wanted to use SEMrush to do an audit and BuzzSumo to see how content was performing but I had no idea what the results would be.

It was hard to create a schedule for this week and manage this portion of the project. For example, I had no idea that the website would have duplicate meta descriptions and that I would be learning how to make new, unique ones to solve the problem. It was beneficial to me to learn how to roll with things this week.

Coming up next…

Next week I look forward to taking the information I received and finding the most effective ways to improve customer engagement with BonVet’s content. I will be creating content as well as setting up a calendar to manage when posts are to be sent out. I also look forward to whatever new wisdom will be imparted on me as I continue to read “How to Win Friends and Influence People.”
